FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 9:3-8,13
And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.

And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.

Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.

Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!

And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?

MFM Daily Devotional 27 April 2025 Message

David and Jonathan were very good friends before the death of Jonathan. David had made a covenant with Jonathan to show kindness to his descendants. After ascending the throne, David decided to fulfill his promise. David found Ziba, a servant of the house of Saul, and asked him if there was anyone left alive from the family of Saul to whom he could show the Lord’s kindness. He revealed to David that one of Jonathan’s sons, who was crippled in both feet, was still alive.

“Where is he hiding?” David asked. “He is in Lo Debar, my lord,” Ziba replied. David immediately dispatched soldiers to bring Mephibosheth to his palace.

When Mephibosheth arrived in Jerusalem, David welcomed him joyfully. He assured him of restoration and royal protection. This was more than Mephibosheth could ever have dreamed of. David could have decided to kill him because he was a threat to his kingship but instead, he chose to show him kindness for his father’s sake. He even went as far as restoring to him all his grandfather’s lands, giving him servants, and granting him the privilege of dining with the king daily.

Suppose King David restored Mephibosheth to a place of honour, dignity, and protection because of his relationship with Jonathan. How much more will the King of Heaven do for you through your relationship with Jesus Christ? You might liken yourself to a dead dog or think you have no hope for the future. You might have even become emotionally crippled, but God can still remember you, no matter your situation. It does not matter how much you have lost or the height from which you have fallen, God is able to restore you completely.

The King loves you unconditionally. God has a place for you at His table, regardless of your flaws and shortcomings. He loves you so much and wants you to get to know Him. Open your heart to Jesus and let Him be your king. Then, you can pray to God for restoration of every good thing you might have lost, according to His promise.
