People who have small problems in life often receive small answers when they call upon God. But when the challenge is great, then comes the opportunity for God to do great things by His great power and fulfil His promise. It is at such a time that God shows that He is the Almighty.

Our passage opens with God’s assurance to Moses that Pharaoh’s resistance would collapse after experiencing His strong-arm tactics. Then he would be forced to drive the Israelites out of his land. God urged Moses not to despair, reaffirming His lordship over all men. He recounted His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and His promise to give the Israelites their own land in Canaan, to free them from captivity in Egypt, to make them His own people, and to be their God.

God’s faithfulness does not change with the passage of time. What He had said to their forefathers many years earlier, would be fulfilled in their time, whether they believed it or not. But this was not comforting enough to the children of Israel because of the anguish of their spirit. In spite of their unbelief, God sent Moses back to Pharaoh with the same message.

God does not want us to give up. Setbacks may arise, turning people away from receiving the word of God. Yet, like Moses, we must continue to receive God’s message. Rather than focus on our problems, we should focus on God and keep trusting Him even when our situation seems impossible.
