TOPIC:  Go with The Ark

TEXT:  Joshua 3:7-13 (KJV)

KEY VERSE
“And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.”
(Joshua 3:13)

Graham Phillips wrote that the “Ark of the Covenant was an ornate golden chest that was both a means of communicating with God and a terrible weapon used against the enemies of ancient Israel. The Bible asserts that the Ark had the power to destroy armies and bring down the walls of cities”. The Ark of the Covenant was a symbol of God’s presence with His people to guide, direct and protect them.

Having reassured Joshua of divine approval of his ministry, God charged him to instruct the Israelites on what to do to cross over River Jordan for onward movement to the Promised Land. The priests were to carry the Ark and step onto the waters of the river so that the waters parted and made a path for the people to pass. These processes were a prelude to conquering of Canaan and six other enemy nations. Joshua informed the people that with the presence of the Ark of God, victory was certain.

Today, we serve a God who is not constrained by time or space. Beyond a physical ark or confine, He now indwells us through His Holy Spirit and word. Salvation in Jesus Christ is the first indispensable step to “going with the Ark”. Trying to go on without the Ark is a futile trip.

Just as the Ark was a precondition for God’s presence with the Israelites, believers must constantly live by the Word to continue to enjoy His presence. Gratefully, believers do not need the priests to bear the Ark on their behalf before they can overcome the hindrances of life. All genuine believers are priests by grace and carriers of the Ark. With it, they have victory over all obstacles on their pilgrimage to heaven.
