Melanie Penn writes pop songs at the crossroads of faith and culture. She was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Falls Church, VA. She began training as a classical vocalist as a pre-teen and competed as a classical singer until moving to New York City..

In New York, Mel transitioned to pop and theatre singing, and for many years she was a mainstay of the theatre scene, which included playing Sandy on the national tour of Grease! with Frankie Avalon. She also served as a worship leader for many New York City churches.
