MFM Daily Devotional 23 November 2021 Outline

The gifts of God to the body of Christ can be divided into three categories. 1 Cor. 12:4-6 says, “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which works all in all.”

The Bible also says, “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one member, one of another” (Romans 12:4-5). According to our memory verse, the five-fold ministry include: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.

A prophet is one who speaks for God to man. He reveals God’s plans for the Church. God uses prophets to give direction and correction to the Church. According to 1 Corinthians 14:3, prophecy is given to edify, exhort and comfort the Church. In other words, prophecy should build up, stir up and cheer up. Prophecy that tears down the body and depresses the people is not from God. Prophecy always serves to encourage and strengthen.

Sometimes, there could be a call for repentance, but it will result in building and not destruction. A good example of a New Testament prophet is Barnabas. His name means son of consolation or encouragement (Acts 4:36). He exhorted the body to purposefully and steadfastly hold on to the Lord (Acts 11:23-24).

Other New Testament prophets are John the Baptist (Luke 1:76) and Agabus (Acts 11:27-28; 21:10-13). John was sent forth to speak as a prophet through the tender mercy of God (Luke1:78). True prophecy will always be tempered with mercy.

In Jeremiah 1:4-10, God told Jeremiah that He was ordained as a prophet unto the nations. Prophets have the responsibility to establish the purposes of God. A true prophet hears from God and carries an authority to bring about change so that God’s people are able to enter into God’s purposes for their lives.

The prophetic ministry is all about changing hearts, mindsets and attitudes towards God and His will. It is about releasing people to fulfil their God-given destiny.

HYMN: The God Who Led His People Thro’ The Parted Sea

1. The God who led His people thro’ the parted sea,
And from Egyptian bondage, set His children free,
Who rain’d down bread from heaven all the pilgrim way,
Is the God to whom I pray.

CHORUS
Just the same today, just the same today,
As when He led His people thro’ the sea;
His trustful child I’ll be, For In His word I see,
The God who doeth wonders
Is just the same today.

2. The God who rescued Daniel from the lions’s den,
And from the fiery furnance, sav’d the three young men,
Who speaks, and constellations will His voice obey,
Is the God to whom I pray.

3. The God who stills the tempest with a word divine,
And on the clouds of sorrow, makes His rainbows shine,
Who from the tomb of Jesus rolled the stone away,
Is the God to whom I pray.
