3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

MFM Daily Devotional 8 March 2025 Message
Self-examination is not an option but a command from God. Psalm 139:23-24 says, “Search me, 0 God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” We are called to examine our lives in the light of God’s word. Are we walking according to His will? Are there sins that we need to repent of? Are we growing in our love for God and for others or have we abandoned our first love? These are very crucial issues that we need to address in order to know how we stand in the Lord.
The purpose of self-examination is not to lead us into despair or condemnation but to bring about repentance and spiritual growth. Lamentations 3:40 says, “Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord.” Through self-examination, we can identify areas where we need to surrender to God more fully, where we need His grace to overcome sin, and where we need to grow in maturity and character.

How do you go about self-examination? To do a proper self-examination, you need to begin with prayer. Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart and reveal anything that is not pleasing to God (Psalm 139:23). Secondly, compare your thoughts, words, and actions with the teachings of the Scriptures (Hebrews 4:12).
Thirdly, you must confess your sins and seek forgiveness from God and those you have wronged. Proverbs 28:13 says, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Finally, self-examination should lead us to action. If we discover areas of weakness or sin in our lives, we must take steps to address them and to grow closer to God.
