Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.

Scripture: Psalm 6:1 -10

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

• Is there any prayer for me to remember?

This passage reveals the depth and gravity of the pains David was passing through when he prayed to God to deliver him. We do not know the exact nature of his pains, but whatever the cause, it must have been very severe, for it penetrated to the depth of his body (my bones, v.2), distressed his mind (my soul, v.3) and made him expect death (v.5; Job 2,7). Such pain as this can sometimes (not always) be a form of  punishment from  God, the repercussion of our sin. Whatever, David recognized the mercies of God and appealed to Him to deal with him, not in justice but in His mercy (vs.1-2; cf. Jeremiah 10:24).

Truly, no one can stand the anger of God without being troubled in his soul, hence the need to avoid incurring His wrath through sin (v.3). Why is it necessary for us to pray for God’s intervention in our troubled times (v.5)? David’s physical suffering was aggravated by the celebration of his enemies over his misfortune (v.7). The psalm ends with an outburst of faith (vs.8-10) being certain that his enemies, God’s enemies, will be defeated.
