TOPIC: Fear Not
STUDY: There are several factors that introduce fear into the life of a man. Most often they include threats to life, danger, failure, etc. When fear comes, it produces many adverse effects in the body system that can lead to sickness and death. The Lord commanded the Priest to address the army of Israel before they set out for war. He was to say to them, ‘Hear O Israel, today you are going into battle against your enemies, do not be fainthearted or afraid, do not be terrified or give way to panic before them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you…’ (Deut. 20:3-4)
It was in this vein that Moses addressed the people in the midst of their fears and said, ‘Fear Not’ (v.13). Even the greatest warrior, or strongest man, needs such an encouraging charge at one point or the other in his life. At a point in David’s life, he was very fearful and went barefooted hiding in a bush. Jonathan – his friend – sought him out and strengthened him in God by saying to him, ‘Do not be afraid’(1Sam.23:16-17). There is need that leaders should often, like Moses, bring encouragement and hope to their members in the face of troubles of this world. Let us encourage one another in the Lord.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, deliver us from fear.
