TOPIC: Appropriating The Benefits Of Christ’s Atoning Death

TEXT: Hebrews 10:19-25 (NKJV)

19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness[a] to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Anglican Devotional 31 March 2022 STUDY

Christ is our High Priest; his atoning death has opened for us a new and living way to God. We now have the boldness to enter the presence of God  (a previously once-a-year prerogative of the high priest), with a true heart, cleansed from sin, and in full assurance of faith (see John 14:6).

We appropriate the full benefits of this new status in God by faith. The text encourages us to live an active life full of love and good deeds and determination to spread the Gospel to all the world. We are also to fellowship with fellow believers, praying, study God’s word and encourage one another especially those whose faith is waning.

When we do these things, we maintain our commitment to the Christian community. Just as it is not possible to enter a highly secured area without prior appointment or any form of identification, so it is impossible to enter God’s presence without appropriating Christ’s atoning death.

Beloved, let us, therefore, appropriate the full benefits of the atoning death so that we can boldly have access into God’s presence as we see the Day of the Lord approaching.

PRAYER: Father, help me to persevere in faith and to encourage someone to do same today in Jesus’ Name.
