MFM Daily Devotional 16 June 2023 MESSAGE

This is definitely not a new topic to many believers in Christ, but strangely many of us do not take heed to these divine warnings. Some consider themselves too big for such, while others are simply negligent of divine warnings. But a wise Christian will definitely watch over his or her tongue, making sure that he speaks the right words at the right time. This is wisdom; it is spiritual maturity!

Beloved, do you desire to grow in the things of the Spirit? Then watch over your tongue, guard your lips and be careful with your utterances. Many verses of scriptures talk on this subject, especially the book of Proverbs. Similarly, the book of James devotes the first ten verses of Chapter 3 to the description of the tongue, its nature and gives instructions on taming it. The first two verses are all-encompassing. If any man can control his tongue, then he is sure to be a master in all areas of life. This implies that lack of control over the tongue equally means lack of self-control which is a component of the fruit of the Spirit written in Gal 5:22-23.

As a true child of God, it is absolutely a disgrace to the Almighty, when you open your mouth to talk carelessly, rudely, proudly or speak foul language. The Lord abhors this! At the same time, you should always think well before speaking or rather remain quiet. It amounts to foolishness for a person to speak and regret it soon after. The Bible tells us that there are gentle and harsh words. Each type reaps its own rewards. Wise people think deeply before talking and are careful of their utterances.

I counsel you to avoid speaking in anger. Silence they say is golden. If you are angry, try to remain silent. The fewer words you speak the lesser the accusation. Desist from harsh and emotionally charged words that can generate unhealthy reactions. Choose your words wisely. Speak graciously, from a pure conscience and loving heart (Colossians 4:6). Words are like seeds, be careful what you sow and how you sow them.
Let your words be an investment!
