TOPIC:  Who Is a Fool? (I)

MEMORY VERSE
The way of a fool is wise in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Proverbs 12:15

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES: Only a fool tests the depth of the water with both feet.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY
Today, I decree that God will damage your ignorance and destroy foolishness in your life, in the name of Jesus.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Psalm 14: 1-7
14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.

There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.

Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his refuge.

Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the Lord bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 41 – 42; Luke 7 – 8.

MFM Daily Devotional 18 September 2023 MESSAGE

The Bible makes a clear distinction between wise and foolish persons. God’s children have the spirit of wisdom in them and the word of God keeps us from being foolish. The wise and the foolish will not have the same gain nor end up in the same destination. Let us examine who a fool is so that we can avoid being one.

First, a fool is the one who says, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1:53:1). The wonderful works of creation are enough evidence that there is God who rules in the affairs of men. Those who deny the existence of God and those who serve false gods are the same. They are fools, as far as God is concerned.

Second, a fool is one who is satisfied with external appearances only (Luke 11:38-40). In this interesting account, Jesus was invited by a Pharisee to dine with him and He obliged. The Pharisee (Jesus’ quest) was surprised that Jesus did not wash his hand before He began to eat. Jesus’ response was: “Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?” Fools give more attention and regard to the tradition of the elders than God’s word and will (Mark 7:3). Jesus stressed that those who wash their hands and other external parts of their bodies but have unclean hearts are foolish and miserable.

The third category of people the Bible refers to as fools are those who build their houses on the sand (Matthew 726-27). The idea of building one’s house on the sand is metaphorical. It refers to those who do not follow the teachings of Jesus, (obey the word of God). This is dangerous and is attached to the folly. The wise build their lives on the rock demonstrating is total obedience to the teachings of Jesus while the foolish do not.

Beloved, reject folly and choose wisdom! Wisdom is the hallmark of believers in Christ. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of wisdom. Embrace Him and you will not live a foolish life.
