TOPIC: The Dangers of Complacency
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Nehemiah 5; Nehemiah 6; Nehemiah 7; John 1; John 2
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 6: 10-15
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
MEMORY VERSE:
And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The Lord will not do good, neither will he do evil.
Zephaniah 1:12

MFM Daily Devotional 19 May 2024 MESSAGE
Complacency is feeling that you have arrived and do not need to improve on yourself or on what you are doing. You become so confident that you lose every sense of danger, threat, competition, or need for change or improvement.
Complacency can happen in many ways. For example, a Christian who becomes unserious with his prayer life, when the Bible says, “Pray without ceasing.” Samson in the Bible is a good example of a complacent Christian. Samson was a man endued with power from his mother’s womb, but he took the grace of God for granted. Instead of living a holy life dedicated to God and His ways, he became reckless and led an iniquitous life.
He was morally loose and continued to wine and dine with the devil and his agents until he met his Waterloo in the bosom of Delilah, an agent of satan who lived in the valley of Sorek. Judges 16:19-20 says, “And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the Lord was departed from him.”

Samson was so profane. He relied so much on his mundane wisdom to outwit the devil. He forgot that it is the Lord that guides the feet of His saints and by strength shall no man prevail (1 Samuel 2:9). This is where complacency can lead anyone to destruction.
Beloved, are you beginning to think that you have arrived and there is nothing new to learn or that nobody is better than you? 1 Corinthians 10:12 says, “Don’t be so naive and self- confident. You are not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence.”
