TOPIC: The Power Of Mercy (I)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Romans 9:1-15
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.

10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

MFM Daily Devotional 20 February 2024 MESSAGE

Power is the capacity of a matter to act. Therefore, the power of mercy can be seen as the capacity of the virtue called mercy to cause a tremendously glorious change. Mercy is the pardon we receive for our sins. It is the forgiveness we do not merit, but God just decided in His prerogative to show to us because of the concluded work of Jesus on the Cross at Calvary.

From the human dimension, mercy is the motivating force that propels a person to have compassion on another who is supposed to be punished for a sin committed or denied a benefit. Sometimes, the force of mercy might be so strong that you may not be able to resist it until you show the mercy to whom God has decided.

Mercy is a mystery because the Bible says, it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy. Someone can be longing for mercy, and such may not receive it. And another person who does not deserve it according to human standards will just receive it.

Meanwhile, the state of your heart has a lot to do with the mercy of God. A heart that is willing and ready to obey will often receive mercy easily from God. A wicked soul will never have compassion on another and as a result, he will be far away from God and destitute of His mercy. The Bible says, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”
Therefore, beloved, to receive mercy from God, you must show mercy to others. But then, the state of your mind also matters as well. How do you show mercy? Do you show mercy to others to puff up? Do you get hurt easily when those you have shown mercy fail to reverence you enough? What is the motive of your heart for showing mercy at all? All these questions must be correctly answered before you can get mercy back from God.
