MFM Daily Devotional 5 June 2024 MESSAGE

Anna was an old woman of eighty-four years, a widow, and a prophetess as stated in the Scriptures. She lived with her husband for only seven years before his demise. This implies that her marriage was short-lived. However, she continued serving God for many years without her husband. Possibly, her husband was also devoted in his service to God while alive, hence Anna continued in that life of worship to Yahweh, the Lord God of Israel. The Bible didn’t tell us if she had children, but one thing was unique about Anna, her house address was the temple. She lived all her life in God’s presence, devoted to serving the Lord. She lived long to be a life witness at the dedication of Jesus, the promised Messiah of God’s people.

As long as Anna lived, it was a life of dedication and commitment to the service of the Almighty God. She made the temple her home and was a deep worshipper of God who rejoiced to be in His presence, dwelling in His tabernacle as written in Psalm 27:4. She knew the mind of God and was patiently waiting, like Simeon, to see the salvation that God had promised. That is, the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She rejoiced at seeing this manifestation, which was proof of God’s faithfulness to His people, even herself.

Anna was a widow indeed, according to 1 Timothy 5:3-4. She spent her years in fastings and prayers. She lived and died serving the Lord. This is an enviable life. Are you a widow? How are you living your life? Like Prophetess Anna, or otherwise? Can others come to the knowledge of the truth through you? Can you remain a person of His presence in total consecration like Anna? How sound and strong is your prayer and fasting life? You can learn a lot from Anna in these few verses.

Anna was a notable prayer warrior and an Intercessor. A widow who made a positive impact! Joy can be felt through her thanksgiving. The Bible counselled that older widows should be teachers of good and godly things to the younger women, showing them a better way of living. Anna exemplified a godly personality that every Christian should be proud of, as a woman and a widow.
