Topic: Contending With Distractions

Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.

ScriptureNehemiah 13: 15-31

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

• Is there any warning for me to heed?

The Sabbath Law was very fundamental in Israel and any violation of it often brought calamity on the nation, hence the concern of Nehemiah in vs.15-22. Apart from rebuking the people, notice the preventive measures he took to stop them from desecrating the Sabbath (vs.19-22).

It is important to consider what we do on the Lord’s Day especially now that commercial activities are very prevalent in Christian environment and even in the church. What can you do to correct this? Worship is crucial in a believer’s life as well as in the family (vs.23-25).

Practice/Word Application
• And so: “Come out from among them and be separate…” (2 Corinthians 6:17)

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Lord, may I not be distracted in my worship by the deceitful glamour of wealth and unholy relationships.

• Pray for those who also communicate the gospel some other ways – TV program, Radio Broadcasting, Drama/Film Productions, and Internet Publishing.
