Topic: Funeral song for Egypt and demise of Pharaoh
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Ezekiel 32:1-16
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
Over the years, Egypt had done much to hurt Israel, yet God called on His servant to lament and not rejoice over the destruction that would come upon her. What does this tell us about our attitude to the suffering of nations and communities that we regard as rivals or enemies? The defeat of Pharaoh, the lion among the nations, and his vast army with which he prides herself, will cause the whole world to be filled with terror (vs.7-10).
The destruction will be terrible, shameful, and total, leaving the country completely destitute! If some leaders persist in their sins, God will expose them in public ridicule and shame, just as God brought Egypt down before other nations. They will be, like Pharaoh, an object of horror and pity, no more to be envied or feared. Will the people around not be prompted to examine themselves and hasten to get right with God, so they are not next on the list? Observe again the final purpose of the judgment of the holy, just and omnipotent God (v.15). All people will know that He is the Lord. Almost all the prophecies from chapters 25 to 32 end with this sentence. Does this prompt you to choose the fear of the Lord?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Father, may the whole world come to acknowledge you as the only true God and Lord over all.
• Ask for the spirit of grace and excellence in all you do.
