TOPIC:  Foolishness

SCRIPTURE: People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.

Time will tell if a person is wise or foolish. It always does. Early in our marriage, I found what I thought was a way to get us out of the financial difficulty we were facing as a young married couple. I was so convinced, after researching the investment opportunity, that I didn’t heed the counsel that I received and went ahead and invested our meagre savings into it.

I thought I was being wise and astute in my actions and was dreaming of the things I would buy with my new-found wealth. As the weeks dragged by with no sales, the boxes of riches became surplus, and the dreams were shattered by disappointment.

Years later I would be reminded of my hasty actions by finding that product mixed among my boxes of stuff left in storage. These reminders brought back the memories of foolishness, but through this experience I learned to listen to wise counsel. In my foolishness I was angry at myself, at the company, and even at God for not stopping me. Later as I prayed, He reminded me of the wise counsel that He sent my way, and I was silent with the realisation of His goodness.

God doesn’t want us to suffer under our foolish choices, but He is bound by his own standards of letting us choose our way. Often in my life, as I reflect on my past, I can see His hand of grace over me, even when I made some foolish choices.

God promised to never leave us nor forsake us. He is faithful to show us the wiser way, if we look to Him. Today, let’s lean on His wisdom and guidance for our lives. When we make poor choices, let’s not become angry with God for not stopping us, but be thankful for His goodness in bringing the wisdom of wise counsel into our lives as we seek Him for it.

PRAYER

Lord, forgive my foolishness, for not always seeking Your wisdom for the situations I face, and not always heeding it when it comes. I ask You for grace in my situation today, and as I humble myself before You, show me Your way out of any problems I face. Teach me Your ways and help me. Amen
