TOPIC:  Who Is a Fool? (II)

MEMORY VERSE
A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

Proverbs 15:5

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES: You will rarely make wise decisions if you surround yourself with fools.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY
Today, God will anoint you with the oil of wisdom, in the name of Jesus.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 1:22-31
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:

30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP: Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 43 – 44; Luke 9 – 10

MFM Daily Devotional 19 September 2023 MESSAGE

Today, we shall learn more about the characteristics that point to who a fool is.

The fourth feature of a fool is that he despises instruction (Prov. 15:5; 13:1). Today’s memory verse affirms this. Some Bible characters who exhibited foolishness by despising and rejecting God’s instruction fell from grace to grass. King Saul and Samson are good examples in the Old Testament. Love and obedience are our greatest marks as disciples of Christ. You only find these traits in wise believers.

The fifth feature of a foolish person, as far as the Bible is concerned, is that he or she is not prepared for Christ’s return. The Bible says that the things that are written in the Scripture are for our learning. However, fools learn that in the time of Noah, the people disregarded heaven’s warning through Noah and were neck-deep in sin and pleasure-seeking until the flood came and destroyed them.

They were caught unprepared. In the same way, many people live today in utter disregard for the truth about the second coming of Jesus. They live in sin. Like the five foolish virgins who though did everything in preparation for the Bridegroom, failed to keep a reserve of oil in anticipation of any eventualities. They ran out of oil, went to buy at a late hour and the door was shut against them. This is the reward of fools!

The sixth mark by which we know a fool is that he or she does not believe in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Luke 24:25, Jesus said to some people, “O fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.” The Gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation. Whoever rejects it rejects grace, truth, salvation and eternal life. That is the height of folly!

The seventh mark of a fool is that he or she trusts in his or her heart. Proverbs 28:26 underscores this truth, “He who trusts in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.” I pray for you that you will not be a fool or live like a fool, in Jesus’ name. Covet wisdom; embrace and manifest it in all your life endeavours.
