MFM Daily Devotional 25 Feb 2024  Message

Yesterday, we established the timeless truth that becoming true disciples of Christ and helping converts to become disciples are two major goals we should seek to achieve. We also began to examine the hallmarks of true disciples and how we can be one. We will continue and conclude that discourse today.

The fifth hallmark of true disciples is that they have a life full of good works. In Acts 9:36, the Bible says, “Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.” The Bible records that this female disciple of Jesus fell sick and died. Having touched so many lives positively while alive, her good works spoke for her. People sent for Apostle Peter who prayed and raised her back to life. Sixth, true disciples of Jesus contribute according to their possibilities.

They prove their loyalty to Jesus by worshipping Him with their substance and giving to His work or cause. In Acts 11:29, the Bible affirms, “Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judea.”

The seventh hallmark of true disciples is that they voluntarily face the offences they have to suffer because of Christ. In Acts 5, the Bible records that the anointing upon Apostle Peter was so great that his shadow was healing the sick and setting free those who were oppressed of the devil. The exploits of the apostles enraged the high priest. He arrested and imprisoned the apostles. God sent His angel to deliver His men from the prison.
The apostles were undeterred and unperturbed.

They still went on to preach God’s word in Jesus’ name. The rulers beat the apostles and commanded them not to preach in the name of Jesus again. In spite of the beating, hostility and persecution, the Bible says that the apostles departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name (Acts 5:41).

Beloved, I encourage you to become a true disciple today. I also enjoin you to engage in soul winning daily and in making disciples of converts that the Lord brings your way. Your reward shall be great here and in heaven, in Jesus’ name.
