Topic: The Three Hebrew Captives

Fire Scripture
Daniel 3:1-17.

Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,

That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:

And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.

They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.

10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:

11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.

14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?

15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

Memory verse
Dan. 3:17-18 – “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up

MFM Daily Devotional 29th June 2021 Outline

The story of the three Hebrew captives, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, will forever remain a classic example of those who are willing to lose their lives for the glory and honour of God. It is a unique example of unparalleled faith in the awesome power of God which can deliver and save to the uttermost.

Their demonstration of faith is a perpetual challenge to modern day Christians. Consider the following questions: Are you truly committed to God? Are you willing to honour and glorify God at the expense of your dignity and life?

King Nebuchadnezzar built an idol with the imperial order that it must be worshipped by all and sundry, failure to do so would lead to death in the furnace of fire. Everyone bowed before the golden image except Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Even the ungodly counsel of the king laced with the threat of gruesome death could not intimidate them to the point of disappointing their God.

They were so sure that their God would deliver them. But if in His sovereignty, He decided not to save them, they would rather die than deny their faith. At the end, the Almighty God showed up for them. They did not bow and they did not burn.

When you stand for God, He will rise for you. It is necessary to state that an idol is anything that is taking our eyes away from God. Whatever has taken the place of God in your heart is an idol. What is the golden image the devil is asking you to bow down to?

Is he asking you to do something ungodly for promotion, protection, prosperity, marital breakthrough, child-bearing, contract, academic success, job opportunities, healing, etc? Please, don’t bow so that you will not burn in hell fire.

Remember, satan also tempted Jesus Christ our Lord, asking Him to bow down before him so he could give Jesus all the glory of the world but Jesus never succumbed (Matt.4:8-10). May you not fail God, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Motivational Quote
When you stand for God, He will rise for you.

Prophetic Word
Your faith shall not fail in the day of temptation, in the name of Jesus.

HYMN
We have an anchor that keeps the soul

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

Chorus
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love.

It is safely moored, ’twill the storm withstand.
For ’tis well secured by the Saviour’s hand;
Though the tempest rage and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o’erflow.

When our eyes behold through the gathering night
The city of gold, our harbour bright,
We shall anchor fast by the heavenly shore,
With the storms all past forever more.
