FIRE SCRIPTURE: James 4:1-8
4 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

MFM Daily Devotional 3 June 2024 MESSAGE
To resist means to withstand the force or effect of a thing or person. In this case, resisting the devil calls for divine intervention and ability. As Christians, we don’t have the human strength, wisdom or power to do so unless we are divinely empowered. James advised that a Christian should first draw nearer to God and thereafter, resist the devil. How then do you draw near to God? What are the things you can do to help you resist this evil one at all times?
Drawing nearer to God involves being a friend of God. To be a friend of God, you must surrender your life to Jesus Christ and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. It is this new birth that brings you to that position of intimacy with God through Christ Jesus. As you grow and mature in your Christian life, engage in daily consistent reading and studying of God’s word, communing with God daily in prayer and praying all kinds of prayers. You will be renewed in your mind and your inner man will be transformed. Also, your spiritual growth and maturity will become evident in word and in deed. You must become an ardent worshipper of the Most High. God dwells in the praises of His beloved.

In addition, you should flee from every appearance of sin. Walk in love and truth, following the footsteps of Jesus. Embrace humility, which is a mark of Christlikeness. As you become more like Jesus, manifesting the fruit of the Spirit (Gal.5:22-23) in every area of your life and relationships, you will get to the point where you can boldly declare that “the prince of this world comes but finds nothing in me”(John 14:30).
This kind of declaration can only be done when you have forsaken the world and all that is in it. You are in the world but not a citizen of the world. As a Christian, your citizenship is in heaven not on earth. Hence, do not be a friend to the world! Doing this opens you to a great risk with the thief, who has come to steal, kill, and destroy. No one romances the devil and go scot-free. Resist him at all cost! When you do your part, God will do His, to deliver to the uttermost.

MORNING:
1. You the roaring lion, you shall not devour me, in the name of Jesus.
2. Power of sin and iniquity upon my life, break and release me, in the name of Jesus.
3. O God, arise and deliver me from every besetting sin, the name of Jesus.
EVENING:
4. Father, clothe me with the garment of righteousness, in the name of Jesus.
5. Hatred for sin and unrighteousness possess me now, in the name of Jesus.
6. Father Lord, empower me to resist the devil and his cohorts in the name of Jesus.
7. Lord Jesus, draw me nearer and take me farther from destruction, in the name of Jesus.
