TOPIC:  Essential Ingredients for Effective Leadership (IV)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 25:14-23
14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

MFM Daily Devotional 7 December 2023 MESSAGE

The third essential ingredient for effective leadership is motivation. Leaders are called to positively influence and motivate people that follow them or work with them. People generally are inspired by a leader’s personality, example and accomplishments.

Motivation is the reason you do what you do. It is the reason you are doing the job you are employed to do presently. It creates a willingness to expand energy to achieve a goal or a reward. For example, people are motivated to serve God for different reasons. For some, it is the desire to enjoy the love of God and their passion for souls. For some, it is the desire to make heaven, and for some other people, it is the desire to have prosperity.

Good leaders motivate others by imparting enthusiasm in them and causing them to take effective action. They also encourage them to get involved in doing things that will lead to the fulfilment of their team’s set goals. Good leaders rarely use threat, force or coercion.
Beloved, as a leader, it is your responsibility to find out what motivates each member of your team and use those things to inspire them. Remember that people have the following needs: physiological needs, safety, material belonging (family, church, sports club, alumni association, etc.), esteem, and purpose in life.

Leaders should go out of their way to encourage their subordinates to experience self-esteem and purpose in life through Christ! The Bible encourages motivation. Jesus, our role model, exemplified motivation in leadership. In Matthew 25:23, He said, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of the lord.” Similarly, in Revelation 2 and 3, where He addressed the seven churches, He, on several occasions, commended them for the good things they had done.

Though God has built some needs into us, He can fulfil them. Therefore, He is the greatest of all motivators. A leader’s task is to help others find their purpose for living and as a result, fulfil all of their deepest needs.
