Seeds of the Kingdom Daily Devotional

TOPIC:  Come To Me

Jesus can see that humanity was burdened and weighed down. How many of us are weary and burdened today? Men and women in today’s society are weary and burdened with so much going on in our daily lives, for example family illness, the cost of living, and work issues.

Our Lord Jesus want us to stop and look to Him for a rest. I love the above verse. First of all, Jesus invites us to come to Him. Wow! He wants us to come. Then, He invites us to put down our heavy loads, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light. For some of us there’s a heavy yoke of trying to get through by our own strength. We try to carry on, but sometimes it takes awhile before we realise that we can go to Jesus and let Him help us. But when we are yoked to Jesus, our burdens become light.

Jesus will give us rest. For that, we need to come to Him, and say, “Yes, Lord”. This does not mean we will be free from all our struggles, but that through the challenges of life we will find rest.

It’s important that we take time out to rest. A good friend said to me recently, “Just be!” It really spoke to me. I was just able to be with Jesus, without any long prayers, or the pressure of trying to stay strong, or even to pour out my heart and feelings, but to just be. Not that we shouldn’t pour out our heart and feelings to Him, but sometimes we just need to be still.

Our God is our Saviour, and comforter. He is always there when we call on Him. He loves us and wants to help us. Are you weary and heavy burdened? If this is how you feel today, come to Jesus. He is waiting with His arms open wide, and He wants to give you rest and take your heavy burden from you. You might like to pray the following prayer.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I am tired and am carrying heavy burdens. Lord, today I come to You and give You my burdens. Lord, I want to be yoked to You. Lord, I ask You to give me rest. Today I come to just be with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
