TOPIC Obeying His Will

TEXT: MARK 16:16-20
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

KEY VERSE
“And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen”
(Mark 16:20).

DCLM Daily Manna 2 January 2024 MESSAGE

The homiletics class of West Coast Baptist College missions submitted this story. “A director once met with the mother of one of his agency’s missionaries who explained to him the difficulty of having a daughter on the mission field of China, and a son as a missionary in Sudan.” She loved and missed them dearly but, as she explained, her love for God allowed her to let them follow His will for their lives. A few months later, the mission’s director got word that the Scottish lady’s son had been killed in Sudan. He once again visited the mother in her home. After telling her the tragic news, the mother looked down, and in a few moments of composure, she said, “Sir, I would rather have my son die in the middle of Sudan, alone, than to have him living here with me, disobeying God’s will.”

Just before leaving finally for heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ handed His disciples the command to go and preach the gospel to every creature. After His miraculous resurrection, Christ motivated them to concentrate on this most important duty on earth. They went everywhere preaching the gospel in obedience to Christ’s command. Expectedly, signs and wonders trailed their obedience and faithfulness.

To fully obey the demands and imperatives of the great commission, the church must commit to global evangelism. Our primary calling is not to organise carnivals, feasting nights, comedy evenings, dance and beauty competitions. Our commission is clear – preach the gospel to every creature.

Let’s make this New Year one that is fully devoted to obeying the will of God. And, naturally, the signs and wonders many crave today, will follow our obedience.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The great commission travels fast on the wheels of passion and compassion.
